Hongdae K-pop Half-Day Route: Albums, Birthday Cafes, AREX (2026)

Quick answer

Getting there: the AREX all-stop train stops at Hongik Univ. Stn. The express train doesn't. It takes under an hour from Incheon Airport Terminal 1.
Merch: Withmuu AK PLAZA Hongdae sells albums and official merch.
Birthday cafes: Hongdae is Korea's biggest cluster, with dozens running at once. Check X on the day.
Timing: start after lunch and finish on Red Road in the evening.

Withmuu's official store list also shows a Square branch at 12 Donggyo-ro 9-gil, Mapo-gu (02-323-7702). It's near Mangwon Stn Exit 2 and opens daily 11:00–20:00. Call to ask what it sells.
Small shops: Hongdae has other album and photocard shops. Stock and authenticity vary, and we only list places we could confirm in 2026.
Tax refunds: not every record store offers them. Bring your passport and ask before paying.

Birthday cafes

Fans rent regular cafes for a few days around an idol's birthday and fill them with photos and freebies. CNN (June 2026) reported about 50 cafes that host them regularly in Hongdae.

The Korea Times (October 2026) reported nearly 100 a week. Counts differ, but expect dozens at once.

Find them on X. Search the idol's name plus 생일카페 or 생카. Posters list dates, hours, addresses and freebies.
Check the organizer's post on the day. Hours change and first-come freebies run out.
Stations: Hongik Univ. (Line 2, AREX, Gyeongui-Jungang) and Hapjeong (Lines 2 and 6).
Respect the street. Many cafes sit on residential lanes. Don't block doors.
Idols rarely visit. Enjoy it as a fan event.

VISITKOREA lists the all-stop trip to Seoul Stn at about 59 minutes from Terminal 1 and 66 from Terminal 2. Hongik Univ. comes before Seoul Stn. Check the all-stop fare on the station machine or a map app.

Going back to the airport, a Climate Card short-term pass works from Hongik Univ. and lets you exit at Terminal 1 or 2. You can't board with it at the airport. The 30-day pass ended on October 1, 2026.
Line 2 also runs straight from Hongik Univ. to Seongsu, so you can pair this route with a Seongsu day.
