Seoul Weather by Month and What to Wear to a K-pop Concert
Quick answer
- Seoul has big seasonal swings. Normal monthly means run from 26.1°C in August to -1.9°C in January (KMA, 1991–2020).
- Winter queues are the hardest. January's normal low is -5.5°C, and Seoul hit -11.4°C on 2 January 2026. Venues are warmer, so wear layers you can take off.
- The rainy season normally runs about 25 June to 26 July. July and August bring over half the year's rain. Pack a poncho for outdoor shows.
- Summer queues are a health issue. Heat wave days nationwide in summer 2026 were about twice the normal. Water, a hat and shade come first.
- Korea uses 220V, 60Hz and two round pins. Don't plug in anything that isn't rated for it.

What to wear for each concert situation
Indoor domes and arenas (KSPO DOME, Gocheok Sky Dome and others) keep out the rain and wind, but you still queue outside. In winter, dress so you can strip down inside.
In summer, bring a thin layer for air conditioning. Standing sections can feel much warmer than seats.
A coat that packs small is easier to keep with you.
Outdoor stadium shows give you the full weather. In August 2026, six audience members went to hospital at Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival (Edaily, YTN).
Outdoor queues (merch, entry, pop-ups) are where you'll spend the longest. Merch lines can start hours before a show.
Plan for no seats, no easy way to leave the line, and tired feet.
Rules on umbrellas, tripods, food and big bags differ by show. Read your event notice before you pack.
Winter queues (December to February)
- Protect your head, hands and feet first. Pack a hat, earmuffs, touchscreen gloves, thick socks and warm insoles.
- Bring several hand warmers. Stick-on warmers are great outside, but put them somewhere you can reach once you're indoors.
- Phones die faster in the cold. On mobile ticket days, carry a power bank and keep your phone close to your body.
- Expect dry air. Winter brings only about 5% of the year's rain and humidity is low. Lip balm and hand cream help.
- Watch your step. Seoul's first snow normally comes around 20 November and first ice around 3 November. Wear shoes with grip.
Rainy season and storms (late June to August)
The central region's rainy season normally runs from 25 June to 26 July, about 31.5 days. In 2026, KMA's dates were 1 July to 26 July.
Dates shift every year, so don't rely on the calendar alone.
- July and August total 762.6 mm, over half the year's rain. August stays wet after the rainy season ends.
- Ponchos work best at outdoor shows. Check your notice to see whether umbrellas are allowed.
- Wet shoes ruin a long day. Bring quick-dry shoes and spare socks.
- Put paper tickets and your passport in a zip bag. Lost paper tickets often can't be reissued.
- Allow extra travel time in heavy rain, and check weather alerts and your event notice.
Summer heat (July and August)
Summer 2026 averaged 25.4°C nationwide, 1.7°C above normal and the third hottest on record. Heat wave days reached 21.5, about twice the normal 10.6.
Tropical nights reached 18.2, about 2.8 times the normal 6.5. These are national figures, not Seoul figures.
KMA's heat alerts have three levels from 2026:
| Alert | Daily peak "feels like" temperature |
|---|---|
| Heat advisory | 33°C or higher for 2 days or more |
| Heat warning | 35°C or higher for 2 days or more |
| Critical heat warning | 38°C or higher, or a daily high of 39°C or higher, expected in an area at heat warning level |
These are KMA's criteria as announced in May 2026. In the queue:
- Bring plenty of water and an electrolyte drink, if your event notice allows them.
- Pack a hat, parasol, handheld fan, cooling towel and sunscreen.
- If you feel dizzy or get a headache, leave the line for shade or a medical booth. Ask safety staff for help.
- At standing shows, don't push through feeling unwell.
Voltage and plugs
- 220V, 60Hz, with two round holes (VISITKOREA).
- You only need a plug adapter if your device label says "INPUT 100-240V". Most phone and laptop chargers do, but check yours.
- Don't use 100V or 110–120V-only devices without a proper voltage converter. Hair straighteners and dryers are the usual risk: use the hotel's or buy one locally.
- Where to get an adapter: ask your hotel front desk, or try airports, duty-free shops and convenience stores (VISITKOREA).
- Light sticks: check the battery type and bring spares.
